The California Employment Development Department recently released its monthly labor report for Humboldt County.  Our community still has historically low unemployment according to the department.  This low rate is the result of two factors; a drop in labor force and increase in the number of people employed.  The drop in labor force is of concern, as a tight labor market can be a drag on economic growth.  There may be many factors leading to this drop in available workers, including increasing retirements of the “baby boomers.”  Is a lack of quality affordable housing for purchase or rent also depressing the labor market?  Is the growth and success of local business being hindered?  These and more questions will be addressed at the Redwood Region Housing Forum on September 20th.  Get More Information
